Our approach
to carbon offsetting
At WisdomTree, ‘responsible investing’ is about more than just products; it is about making meaningful changes to the way we operate and being cognisant of the impact our company has. The threat of climate change has never been more immediate, and we recognise that we must use our position to implement positive change and offset any negative environmental effect.
Since 2019, our European operation has been carbon neutral, and we see this as our first step towards becoming a net-zero asset manager. We have partnered with Carbon Footprint to calculate our carbon emissions and offset them accordingly by supporting important projects across the globe. All these projects are Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)/Gold Standard approved and, to date, we have offset over 830 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
We are proud to be supporting a new project to offset 2024 emissions: Reforestation of degraded land by MTPL in India.
The project addresses land degradation in India by implementing large-scale reforestation efforts. Led by Mangalam Timber Products Limited (MTPL), the initiative spans over 14,527 hectares and involves planting Eucalyptus trees across seven districts in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The project aims to remove carbon from the atmosphere while also restoring degraded ecosystems. The project is verified under the Verified Carbon Standard.
The environmental impact is substantial, with increased carbon sequestration, improved soil health and greater biodiversity due to enhanced habitats for native flora and fauna. The additional benefits of this programme include:
This initiative is aligned with two of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs):

UpEnergy Improved Cookstoves Programme in Uganda
In 2024 we supported a social impact business that makes clean technologies accessible to underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since it was founded, UpEnergy has served over 125,000 Ugandans, avoiding over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and saving over 120,000 trees. The UpEnergy Improved Cookstoves Programme distributes locally made fuel saving stoves to replace traditional three-stone fires, helping to reduce emissions, protect local forests and improve the financial well-being of those vulnerable to climate risks. Additional benefits of this programme include:
+ Employment opportunities for the local community to work as stove salesmen so they can completely transform their lives and financial well-being
+ Households save several hours a day through reduced time needed for cooking and fuel collection

Zoba Anseba Community Safe Water Project
In 2023 we supported a safe water charity in Eritrea, Africa. The project supports the provision of safe water using borehole technology to hundreds of households in the Zoba Anseba district. Many local people currently use wood fuel on inefficient fires to purify their water which releases greenhouse gases. This can be avoided by implementing a process that doesn’t require fuel combustion to supply clean water. The additional benefits of this project include:
+ Renovation of boreholes that have fallen into disrepair
+ Households will require less firewood for water purification
+ Reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from the combustion process used to purify water

Energising India Using Solar Energy Project
This important project is a step towards supporting the implementation and installation of five grid-connected renewable solar energy power plants in India. The main goal of project activity is to implement renewable energy projects in the country. The significant importance of revenues from sales of carbon credits to achieve this goal, forms the basis of the implementation of this project. Additional project benefits include:
+ Generation of employment opportunities during the construction and operation of the project
+ Reduce the demand/supply gap in the region
+ Demonstrate the power of renewable energy technology

About Carbon Footprint
Carbon Footprint is the first choice for hundreds of organisations, ranging from SMEs to multinational blue-chip corporations. They believe in carbon reduction ‘at source’ as the ‘gold standard’ for climate change mitigation. They are also passionate about supporting decarbonisation globally, and as rapidly as possible, which has led them to become the leading carbon offset solutions provider.
As founding members of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for carbon offsetting (see https://qasaudit.com/ for details), they are relied upon by leading brands, and the UK government, to offset emissions.
