WisdomTree US Equity Income Index (Methodology updated on 20th December 2019)
The Index is a fundamentally weighted index and is comprised of the highest dividend yielding equities selected from eligible U.S. dividend-payers. A composite risk scoring methodology is also applied to further mitigate risk within the selection process.
As of the annual Index Screening Date, each company is ranked on the basis of its indicated annual dividend yield, with the top 30% of companies qualifying for index selection within the WisdomTree US Equity Income Index based on this metric. Composite risk scoring is then used to mitigate risk, focusing on three factors: Value, Quality and Momentum. Companies with dividend yields in the top 30% but whose composite risk scores fall in the bottom 20% (bottom quintile) are not included within the Index. Further, amongst the qualifying constituents, those with the highest one-third of composite risk scores see their weights increased by 50%, those with the middle one-third of composite risk scores see their weights unchanged, and those with the lowest one-third of composite risk scores see their weights decreased by 50%. In this way, the WisdomTree US Equity Income Index maintains its focus on high-yielding dividend-payers while at the same time tilting weight toward those companies with the highest composite risk scores.
